Haltern (also: Haltern am See - Haltern at the lake) is a town and a municipality in the district of Recklinghausen, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated on the Lippe River and the Wesel-Datteln Canal, approx. 15 km north of Recklinghausen. It is twinned with Rayleigh in Essex, South East England.
