Halmir

Halmir is a fictional character in J.R.R Tolkien's books. He appears in the Silmarillion.

He is one of the Edain, lives during the First Age and is lord of the Haladin. His father is Haldan ; he has a son, Haldir, and a daughter, Hareth.

Halmir was lord of the Haladin when Morgoth renewed his war against the Elves and their Edain allies with the Dagor Bragollach, and it is said that the deeds of his people were remembered with honour. They lived to the south of Beleriand, in the forest of Brethil, and were at first untouched by the war; but Orcs came after Minas Tirith was taken, and yet the Haladin would not relinquish their homes, and Halmir sent word to Thingol, as he had friendship with the Elves that guarded Doriath. Thingol sent him Elves with axes, led by Beleg Strongbow, and together with the Haladin they defeated the Orcs. The latter did not dare cross the Teiglin afterwards, and the Haladin lived in watchful peace in Brethil, and Nargothrond had respite.

When the Union of Maedhros was made, Halmir prepared his people for war and they whetted their axes. It was not he, however, who led his people to the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, but his son Haldir, as he died before the battle began.

Halmir's children were Haldir and Hareth, and they wedded the children of Hador Lórindol, respectively Glóredhel and Galdor. Hareth thus was the mother of the famed brothers Húrin and Huor.
