The halloween hermit crab (Ciliopagurus strigatus) is a species of hermit crab native to the Hawaiian Islands. It should not be confused with the halloween crab.
The crab is bright orange with either red or white banding. They tend to live in an abandoned snail or triton shell. They may also resort to attacking and eating a snail so it can use the shell for its home, although the crab is essentially herbivorous.
