IMDb profile |
Half-Wits Holiday is a short subject starring the Three Stooges. In the film, the Stooges are subjects of a "nature vs. nurture" wager between two psychologists -- one has bet the other that he can turn the boys into gentlemen through environment. (The same plot was used in an earlier Stooges film, 1935's Hoi Polloi.)
The film marked the final appearance of Curly Howard as an official member of the slapstick comedy team. During filming on May 6, 1946, Curly suffered a severe stroke and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Consequently, he was unable to appear in the final scenes of the film, which consisted of a pie fight. He was replaced thereafter as the third stooge by his (and Moe's) brother Shemp Howard (though Curly did recover sufficiently to make a gag cameo appearance in 1947's Hold That Lion!).
The film also marked the first appearance in a Stooges short of longtime supporting star Emil Sitka.
