Haj subsidy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Haj subsidy is subsidy in airfare given to the Indian Haj pilgrims . The Haj pilgrims going through Haj Committee of India are offered subsidy/concession in airfare. It is paid by the Government of India to the Air India.

It is criticised on the grounds that (1) no Islamic country offers any subsidy for Haj pilgrims. Pakistan did until the Lahore High Court banned the practice and that (2) it is against Islamic theology to be obligated to anyone for performing Haj.

Recently Allahabad High Court stayed its operation.
