[edit] Extracurriculars

Haines High School recently has produced several regional champion boys and girls cross-country teams and the girls team looks to be a perennial state contenders in the upcoming years. Historically, Haines has produced a number of state championship drama, debate, and forensics teams in the 90s and still continues to be competitive.

Haines is classified as a 3A school by the Alaska School Activities Association, however, since the 3A classification is 100-400 student body enrollment and Haines High School's enrollment has been on a continual drop over the past decade and now sits in the 80s, Haines has the option to move the 2A competitive level (enrollment of 50-100 students), but has so far resisted to attempts to do so[1]. As of 2006, Haines has the smallest enrollment in Southeast Alaska 3A athletic and activities conference.

[edit] Current status

Haines High School is currently undergoing a large renovation that will ultimately combine the high school with the middle school and elementary school[2].

The school is also sending roughly 75% of all its graduates on to higher education and less than 10% of the student body drops out[3]. Both figures are above statewide averages.

Current K-12 student population is 290, but enrollment is expected to increase by 30 students in the 2007 - 2008 school year.
