Pro

Tthere is compelling evidence that the so-called "Hagenauer Mozart" was owned by Johann Lorenz Hagenauer, who was the friend, landlord, and business partner of Leopold Mozart, the father of W.A. Mozart. First, the painting was found in a collection of artefacts that could be traced back to the estate of Johann Lorenz Hagenauer. Second, the frame of the painting bears a known property mark of Johann Lorenz Hagenauer.

The painter is still unknown, but the chances that he/she can be identified are considered as good, because the painting is of outstanding quality and reveals a highly original style.

Contra

In short terms: Unkown painter, unknown sitter, no evidence. But there is the Mozart anniversary.
