Image talk:Haeckel drawings.jpg
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The embryo drawings recorded by Haeckel are false. It has been known for quite sometime that these were "faked". There are three major problems with these drawings:
The first problem with Haeckel's drawings are that he "watered down" the images. They are not realistic portrayals of embryos. If you compare a modern photograph of each of these creatures with the drawings you will find that there are differences. The second problem with these drawings is that they do not portray life. Haekel took the most similar embryos he could find in order to make his case stronger, and this was before he "watered down" the drawings to more closely match the others. The third problem of the drawings is that the drawings were supposedly from the beginning of the embryos stages but were in fact from the middle stages. You may wonder, "what does that matter?". Well although these drawings could possibly prove evolution were the other problems not present, it doesn't prove the theory of Darwin. The reason it doesn't prove Darwin's theory is because Darwin said that embryos would pass through the forms of their ancestors in the beginning stages before coming to the evolved state. But in the true embryonic course embryos are more similar in the middle of development and very dissimilar in the beginning and end.
[edit] This proves evolution.
Several years ago, I saw this image in a book. It made me belive in evolution. Just for the record, I'm a Roman Catholic from Kansas. Nick Warren 07:27, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
