Re: Llanhyfryddawelllehynafolybarcudprindanfygythiadtrienusyrhafnauole

An interesting tale, but technically not entirely true I think.

Communities in the UK do not have the right to give themselves any name they wish - or at least they can put up whatever placename boards the like, but the Ordnance Survey, the Post Office, and the Department of Transport (or ODPM as it is now) have to recognise the changes if you really want the new name to be used on letters, maps, and road signs.

It is vanishingly unlikely that a nme adopted as a protest would win such recognition. Its also a tediously long process and requires a high degree of unanimity from all local authorities before it has a chance of going through. I know because my own town (Letchworth Garden City) just did this and it took AGES!

So - while its a anice story and Llanhyfryddawelllehynafolybarcudprindanfygythiadtrienusyrhafnauole may be the longest unofficial place name, it has no official status so probably cannot claim the record.

You are of cours correct in the assumption that it was never an official name. The point of the idea was to gain publicity, for this no actual name change would be necessary, nor would it have been supported by authorites even if it had been attempted. This was a protest only. [edit] Dido

In response to your amazement at music categorization if you would care to look at the review links for both Q-magazine and AMG they both categorise No Angel as rock whereas NME mention folk-beat. As with many things music genre categorisation is a highly individual thing. As the review links are there so as to get impartial reviews I would imagine that someone will revert your changes back. Personally I don't care what people call different types of music, I just know when I hear something I like. But I would not of said that Dido should really be put into easy listening, that makes me think of Des O'Connor or the like.Scraggy4 16:35, 2 Aug 2004 (UTC)

  • Dido's music is frequently played as backround music in resteraunts, elevators and such, it is most definately in the same genre as Des O'Connor, Frank Sinatra etc. in my opinion. Labelling it as Rock gives a much more false impression although I have no doubt that should she choose to do so then she is talented enough to turn her hand at most forms of music as her work with Faithless has shown. In case you wandered I am a fan, I just find it insulting that many sites don't bother to properly categorise music into Genres. As for people changing it back, only people who have listened to the album should change anything so I will leave that up to them. -- Hackerjack 22:44, 4 Aug 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Aussie Suburbs.

I fixed the suburb HTML tables because they were broken, but did not write the stubs. Using the new template feature seems like an excellent idea — why not try it? --Zigger 17:10, 2004 Aug 19 (UTC)

[edit] image tagging

Hi! Thanks for uploading Image:Welsh-Rugby-Regions-2003.png, Image:Welsh-Rugby-Regions-2003.jpg, Image:Welsh-Rugby-Regions-2004.png, and Image:Welsh-Rugby-Regions-2004.jpg. I notice they currently don't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under the GFDL, or {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much, hike395 03:06, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
