Llanhyfryddawelllehynafolybarcudprindanfygythiadtrienusyrhafnauole
An interesting tale, but technically not entirely true I think.
Communities in the UK do not have the right to give themselves any name they wish - or at least they can put up whatever placename boards the like, but the Ordnance Survey, the Post Office, and the Department of Transport (or ODPM as it is now) have to recognise the changes if you really want the new name to be used on letters, maps, and road signs.
It is vanishingly unlikely that a nme adopted as a protest would win such recognition. Its also a tediously long process and requires a high degree of unanimity from all local authorities before it has a chance of going through. I know because my own town (Letchworth Garden City) just did this and it took AGES!
Llanfynydd has no more right to its claim than the previous attempt to take Llanfair PG's record - Gorsafawddacha'idraigodanheddogleddollônpenrhynareurdraethceredigion (a station on the Fairbourne & Barmouth Miniature Railway which is longer than "Llanhyfryddawelllehynafolybarcudprindanfygythiadtrienusyrhafnauole"!)
So - while its a nice story, Llanhyfryddawelllehynafolybarcudprindanfygythiadtrienusyrhafnauole lacks a claim to being even the longest unofficial place name, leave along the longest official one.
I suggest you amend the entry accordingly.
