H. Emilie Cady (1848-1941) was an American metaphysician, homeopathic practitioner and and author of spiritual writings.
Her 1896 book Lessons in Truth is now considered the basic textbook for the Unity School of Christianity and has sold over 1.5 million copies since its first publication. Born in 1848 in Syracuse, New York, Cady's first profession was schoolteacher in a one-room schoolhouse in her hometown. In the 1880s however, she decided to pursue the field of medicine, and became a doctor of homeopathic medicine in New York City.
Cady became deeply involved in spiritual and metaphysical studies. She was inspired and influenced by Biblical teachings and the philosophy of Ralph Waldo Emerson. She also associated with several prominent figures in the spiritual movement of the time, including: Emma Curtis Hopkins, Emmet Fox, Ernest Holmes, and Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, co-founders of the Unity School of Christianity.
A booklet she had written and self-published in the early 1890s called Finding The Christ in Ourselves so impressed the Fillmores that they arranged to have it re-printed and distributed, and Cady became a regular contributor to Unity magazine beginning in 1892. The articles she wrote for that publication were eventually collected and published in book form. In addition to Lessons in Truth, these books include How I Used Truth and God, A Present Help.
