Templates for deletion This template was considered for deletion on 2006 February 1. The result of the discussion was delete.

This section of the talk page applies to a template created in [[?]] and deleted in February 2006.

I was about to put this template up for deletion, but decided to just make it look more like a regular external link (like Template:Imdb name). I don't think it's a good practice to put it in a box similar to Wikibooks or Wikiquote links... people may mistakenly think that h2g2 is associated with Wikipedia. [edit] use named parameters

Please use named parameters: they are less sensitive to spaces around the verticle bars that delimit the parameters. -- Pinktulip 09:05, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

This section of the talk page refers to another template of the same name created in [[?]].

[edit] It doesn't work

The template is currently used at Weetabix, where it produces a link to [1], which is the h2g2 Front Page. It's that last soldus doing the mischief. TRiG 12:41, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

I think (hope!) that's fixed now Trig. Stu ’Bout ye! 13:29, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

'Tis indeed! <ta>, as we say on hootoo. TRiG 19:12, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What does this mean?

I'm at home on h2g2, and don't really know much about Wikipedia.

There's a note on the top of this page claiming that the template has been deleted, but it does in fact still work. And it is currently in use on at least one article. Huh?

What goes on?

TRiG 21:30, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

I (the one who added the note recently) left an explanatory comment over at Wikipedia talk:Guide for h2g2 Researchers, but I really should have left a comment here as well. This template was deleted back in February, for reasons that can be found in the relevant templates for deletion discussion log. In the last day or two, another editor (Stumason) (re)created this template to make it easier to link to h2g2 articles. It's perhaps likely that Stu didn't know that a template identical in name and purpose to the one he created had been deleted nearly six months ago. I added the notice at the top of this page to bring attention to the fact that this template was deleted before and to try and head off any potential confusion. I also wanted to make editors aware that, since it had been deleted in the past, this template might be (re)deleted in the future—in fact, it would qualify for speedy deletion as a recreation of deleted material, though that doesn't mean that it will necessarily be deleted. Hope this helps explain the situation. — Jeff | (talk) | 06:55, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi Jeff, yes I realised there must have been a previous h2g2 one when a talk page appeared on the template when I created it. I've been considering nominating it for TfD before someone else does, and making my case as to why it should stay. The reasons people gave in the original TfD aren't valid in my opinion. Particularly "spam", "unsourced" and "competition". Stu ’Bout ye! 11:58, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
