Gyumaoh
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gyūmaō is a fictional character in the manga and anime Gensōmaden Saiyūki, the "Ox-Demon-King" of Houtou castle.
He is legally married to Ratsetsunyo and has a mistress, Gyokumen-kōshū, not to mention the father of Kōgaiji and Lirin.
Five hundred years before the beginning of Saiyūki, he was a powerful yōkai lord and he refused to live with humans. Instead, he preferred to devour human flesh. His cruel actions led the gods to send down War Prince Nataku to subdue him.
The battle was long and bloody, with both sides suffering heavy casualties. However, Nataku emerged as the survivor of the battle. As for Gyūmaō, it is believed that the gods sealed his subdued body, together with all the occupants inside Houtou castle, including his wife and son, for five hundred years.
When the seal was broken, his lover Gyokumen-kōshū took steps to revive him. Using a forbidden mixture of science and yōkai magic, his subdued body was placed in a special incubation chamber and is now awaiting the five Heaven-and-Earth Sutras in order to be revived again.
