Gyarus
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
also called Gyaros, is a small, barren island in the Cyclades. During the Roman Empire, it was most famous as a destination for exiles, many of them political offenders. Its most famous resident was Musonius Rufus, a philosopher sent there on a trumped up charge of participation in the Pisonian_conspiracy. Musonius' pupil Epictetus frequently uses Gyarus as an example in his philosophical writings on exile. Gyarus is also mentioned in Cicero's letters to Atticus as a place the orator visited.
