[edit] Divorced?
I'm not sure being introduced as Mrs Gwendolyn Post is a reasonable justification for her being divorced. Not even in Britain do women refer to themselves by their husbands' names. The only place I've ever seen this happen is on the addresses of letters, and even then only when addressed to both husband and wife at the same time. -- Supermorff 21:56, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
- If I recall my Miss Manners, the technically correct form of address for a married woman is "Mrs John Smith." If she divorces she becomes "Mrs Jane Smith" (to distinguish her from any future "Mrs John Smith"s who may happen along) but she's also addressed as "Mrs Jane Smith" if she's widowed. Of course in these modern times the old forms of address are rarely used anyway (which makes Mrs Post's tagging herself "Mrs" all the stranger). Otto4711 13:38, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
