The Gweno are an ethnic and linguistic group based in the northernmost part of the Pare Mountains in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania. In 2000 the ethnic Gweno population was estimated to number 2,000, with the nearly extinct Gweno language spoken mostly by older adults while younger Gweno shift to Asu and Swahili [1].
