Gwazi is a dueling roller coaster at Busch Gardens Africa (Busch Gardens Tampa Bay) in Florida. Its maximum speed is 50 mph and includes 6 fly-bys (portions of the ride where the trains pass each other in opposite directions). The name Gwazi originates from a fabled creature with the head of a tiger and the body of a lion. Gwazi includes almost 7,000 feet of combined track and both the Lion and Tiger have different track layouts.
Gwazi opened in 1999, only a few months after Dueling Dragons at Universal Studios' Islands of Adventure. Dueling Dragons and Gwazi are currently the only true dueling roller coasters in the world. Gwazi, however, holds the record for most fly-bys on a dueling roller coaster.

[edit] Ride
[edit] Lion
The Gwazi Lion's highlight is a seemingly continuous number of spirals. The Gwazi Lion side features yellow trains.
[edit] Tiger
The Gwazi Tiger has an element that gives riders a slalom sensation more like a bobsled than a wooden coaster. The Gwazi Tiger side features blue trains.
[edit] Trivia
- Due to Gwazi's restraint system, which consists of a seat belt and a lapbar, the coaster unfortunately never seems to duel anymore unless upon coincidence. The workers claim the other side is broken.
- Gwazi is the largest and fastest double wooden roller coaster in the southeast.
[edit] Rumors
- It is rumored that Gwazi will receive Millennium Flyer trains for the 2007 season due to the long loading times Gwazi currently experiences.
