[edit] How he became rich
Cirque du Soleil was originally founded by two street performers; Guy Laliberté and Daniel Gauthier. It was an answer to a call by Commissariat général aux célébrations 1534-1984 of the Quebec Government for the 450th anniversary celebration of the arrival of French explorer Jacques Cartier (b 1491-d 1557) to Canada. Gauthier, who left the company in 2001, now owns the ski area Le Massif, on the St. Lawrence River in Quebec. Cirque du Soleil is now "guided" by Laliberté. Over time he had created more Cirque acts. Some of which were in permanent locations and some that tour all across the continents to begin a massive Cirque du Soleil 'empire' of sorts. Every year several more performances are created and revealed, making Laliberté one of the most successful people in the Canadian entertainment industry.
