Guy Gargan

Guy Gargan, a current resident of Ocean City, was a professional boxer who competed from 1973-1979, with mixed success, in and around his then home town of Upper Darby, Pa. Gargan suffered an almost career ending injury in his one and only 1978 bout against long-time rival Archie Andrews. In front of a sold out Spectrum crowd in South Philadelphia an Andrews uppercut in the sixth round knocked Gargan to the ground where he bled profusely from both ears and muttered his now infamous phrase "I'll never fight again." After the loss however, Gargan fought twice more, both times in 1979 and earned wins against Ralph Mika and Jimmy Sykes. Gargan ended his career with a 11-4-5 record, including two TKO's, and after several years found inclusion on the boxing hall of fame ballot but was never voted in. Gargan does however belong to the Philadelphia Boxing Hall of Fame and now works as a Sports Clerk at the Press of Atlantic City where he enjoys water sports and microwave entrees.
