From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Guthrie is an unincorporated community in King County in the U.S. state of Texas.
It is the county seat of King county. In 1990, its population was only 160. The town was founded in 1891, the same year it won an election to be the county seat. It houses a K-12 school called Guthrie Common School District and is home to two major ranches, the Pitchfork and the 6666 (four sixes). The school has some very good athletes and a high academic level. Very few homes in Guthrie are privately owned. Most residents live in housing provided by the ranches or the school district. Guthrie is mentioned in passing in Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" as one of the places he drove through.
