The rationale behind deleting the Slovenian names of places in Austria is:
- Putting an alternative name after every name in the article is cluttering.
- Without an explanation why, it is also confusing.
- Putting an explanation into every article on Carinthia and other bilingual areas would be more cluttering.
IMO, the sensible policy for names in multilingual areas seems to be:
- Use the English name, if one is in general use.
- If multilinguality is discussed, or if otherwise appropriate (i.e. listing of cities in an area), use all appropriate forms.
- Otherwise, use only the local name in the main official language and put the alternative forms into the first sentence of the articles on individual topics.
