[edit] the Javanese tummy wrap, the Gurita

For centuries, the traditional Gurita (Indonesian tummy wrap) has been widely used by many generations of mothers for their first months of postnatal care. Believed to assist in the body's natural recovery, Indonesian women have been using cloth gurita which resemble the functions of the modern day corset, to help push up the uterus, clear water retention, wind, and spasm, reduce the tummy size and weight reduction. It is not uncommon for postnatal Javanese women to use the gurita for 3 months after birth to ensure they fully achieve their desired form.
