The scope of the project is that of articles which consist entirely of, or directly relate to, the Japanese original or English adapted form of:

• Anime, animated stories released into the retail market. Created in Japanese and originally intended for the Japanese audience. This includes Anime produced outside of Japan (for instance by a Korean animation studio) created for the Japanese market
• Manga, illustrated stories in traditional manga format. Authored in Japanese and originally intended for the Japanese audience. Not a part of the project are Manhwa and Manhua for example iD_eNTITY
• Light novels, but not Visual novels lacking anime or manga adaptations. For the relevant project on visual novels, see WikiProject Visual novels.
• Adapted audio dramas and soundtracks of the above
• Omake and live action adaptions of the above
• Stageshows based directly on an original Anime or Manga series such as Seramyu, Tenimyu, and Bleach (musical). These topics should normally be covered in a series main page, but may have separate articles because of size concerns.
• Characters from the above
• Merchandise of the above
• Companies and staff of those companies that produce the above and companies that produce licensed English translations of the above but not anime voice actors that speak in neither Japanese nor English
• Mangaka (manga authors and illustrators)
• Video games based off of anime but not video games that have anime characters but are not based on anime or manga, for example Keio Flying Squadron series
• Anime terminologies
• Widely popular anime fandom, but not anime and manga inspired webcomics like Megatokyo, nor non-Japanese anime and manga such as Peach Fuzz.

The following is guidelines for editors and should be applied to all Anime or Manga related pages.

1. Please also follow the guidelines on Japan-related Manual of Style.
2. Always make redirects for alternate names and titles, especially if the title uses mācrons.

[edit] Shows, movies, and manga

In general, follow the form given on WikiProject Television or WikiProject Films (the television project's form seems to work well for manga/any episodic story also). Keep the articles for manga and anime together if they tell a contiguous or connected story and do not make the article too large.

[edit] Article name

Name your pages in English and place the native transliteration on the first line of the article unless the native form is more commonly recognized by readers than the English form. See: WP:NAME: TV | Books | Films

If several articles share the same name then use the Wikipedia page naming conventions. The word or phrase in parentheses should be: The generic class that includes the topic. For example:

• Anime related - title (anime)
• Manga related - title (manga)
• Game related - title (game)
  • Visual novel related - title (visual novel)
• Live action/drama/tokusatsu - title (TV series)

For further disambiguation between anime television series, OVAs and movies the subject or context to which the topic applies should be used, for example:

• Television series - title (TV series)
• OVA - title (OVA)
• movie - title (film)

Example of pages that illustrate disambiguation:

[edit] Sections

1. The lead section should provide a brief summary of the main points in a way that allows it to stand on its own as a concise version of the article. At the very least, it should describe the anime or manga, its author or creator, basic premise of the anime or manga, and the English language licensers (if any). As always, keep the recommendations of Wikipedia:Lead section in mind, and avoid spoilers. The Infobox appears in the lead section.
2. Typically, the next section is a plot summary. In practice, this covers at least the beginning of a series or film. Full plot summaries can be divided into subpages if needed, but a brief summary should remain in the main article.
3. Differences between the original version and the English adaption may comprise a section that follows the plot summary
4. A listing of the main characters follows next, with basic character descriptions and voice actor credits (if applicable; see {{anime voices}}) There is no need to create a separate voice actor section.
   • Characters' names should be given in western order.
   • Character names should always be in bold, and generally should not be divided into sub-sections as this makes the Table of Contents unnecessarily long.
   • Minor characters are optional, but article length should be considered.
   • If the majority of characters descriptions consist of one or two sentences, a bullet list is most appropriate; but if the majority of characters descriptions consist of one or more paragraphs, then a definition list is preferred. A separate page is appropriate for characters if the section on the article grows large. If the list of characters is a separate page headings should be used and the page should be named List of characters in (series). Separate articles for each character should be avoided unless the character information is large enough to warrant its own page.
   • Characters should be called by their most commonly known name, as per Wikipedia's naming policy. This may not necessarily be the same as the official name(s).
5. Lists of episode titles, manga volumes, voice actors, theme songs, etc., should be placed towards the end of the article. If these lists take up a large amount of space, consider moving them to a separate page titled List of (series) media. Other list-type information (such as soundtracks that do not merit individual articles) should also be placed on this page. For an example implementation see Neon Genesis Evangelion and List of Neon Genesis Evangelion media.
6. A Reception section can be added, but it must be well cited.
   • Avoid trivia sections in articles. Try to incorporate trivia in other sections of the article.
7. References and External links are placed at the foot of the article. A Further Reading section may also be applicable.

1. Articles should be self-contained, only referring to subpages for additional information or details if the main article or a section becomes too long for the main article. Readers should be able to obtain all basic information about an anime or manga by only reading the main article. Follow guidelines at Wikipedia:Summary style when creating subarticles.
2. Use the Manual of style when dealing with Japanese names and words. Mention differences between the original Japanese and the western adaptations. Try to use '''{{nihongo|Article title|Japanese text|rōmaji|"literal translation"}}''' to start the opening sentence of the article.
3. Article introductions should be primarily about the first format of a work (usually manga) and not about the most popular format of that work (usually anime). For example: "Bleach is a manga series, that was later adapted into an anime series", NOT "Bleach is an anime series, based on a manga of the same name." In cases where title disambiguation is necessary, a similar guideline should be followed.
4. For spoilers, please follow the guidelines at WP:SPOILER
5. When adding categories to an anime article, use one or more of the subcategories from Category:Anime by genre.

If the information does not already exist, an infobox can be added to an article. Please see {{Infobox animanga}} for instructions and usage.

Flag icons 

Often, flag icons are used inside {{Infobox animanga}} to help distinguish between companies in different countries. This can be easily accomplished by using the template {{flagicon|CountryName}}. A list of commonly used country flags include:

External links to the official site(s) are commonplace on anime and manga articles. Providing both the Japanese language official site and English language official site is ideal but either is fine. Wikipedia policy should be followed for fansite - only one should be provided per article.

Reference website such as AnimeNfo, AniDb and Anime News Network may be used in references.

For articles on seiyū (voice actors), animators, directors, etc., follow Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography. Make sure to specify:

• Name in Kanji and literal transliteration if different from the usual English name.
• Year of birth (and death if applicable)
• Notable works he/she was involved in
• Impact/influence (if any)

Use the form of the name in English that the person personally uses (e.g. Yoshitoshi ABe, not Abe Yoshitoshi), or if that is unknown, the form it is most often translated as. See also Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles)#Person names and Japanese name#Japanese names in English.

See Wikipedia:Companies, corporations and economic information for basic guidelines. Also specify:

• Year of founding (and dissolution if applicable)
• Notable works the organization is/was involved with (though in practice this becomes a comprehensive list)

Also add Category:Anime companies and/or Category:Animation studios as appropriate.
