[edit] Nordström's theory of gravitation

Someone knowledgeable should add a mention about this work in the body of the text, because this theory played an important role in the development of General relativity and is therefore arguably an even more important contribution than the well known Reissner-Nordström electrovacuum solution. Make sure to distinguish clearly between the two versions of theory (the first is nongeometric and the second, introduced after comments with AE, is expressed in the language of geometry). This is a bit tricky to explain briefly but clearly, so probably only an expert should attempt it.---CH 15:47, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Oops! Forgot to drop by back in April 2006 to say that I have created Nordström's theory of gravitation. Problem solved. ---CH 04:52, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Finnish or Finland-swedish?

In the article it is stated that Gunnar Nordström was "finnish". As far as I know, he belonged to the swedish speaking minority rather than being finnish and was thus Finland-swedish. Jens Persson jepe2503 [at] hotmail [dot] com (130.242.128.85 20:19, 5 March 2006 (UTC))

Hi, Jens, I dropped by to comment on precisely this issue and found your comment. I believe you are correct that Nordström was born into a Swedish speaking family in Finland but we should verify this. The internal link would apparently be to Ankdammen (duckpond). Unfortunately, that article seems to be bitterly disputed, and I'd like to avoid any possibility of some kind of flame war over what seems to most of us (at least in the English speaking world) a minor detail. ---CH 04:41, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
This is a strange and enduring misconception. The term 'finnish' encompasses the swedish speaking finnish population as well as the local population in Finland with various other backgrounds from Germany, Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Savolax, Tavastia, Bothnia etc. Finland-swedes are under the category of 'finnish'. Just check our own homepages Svenska folk partiet. They advertise as The finnish peoples party which is complitely correct. Swedish speaking population in Finland is finnish.Spespatriae 11:15, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Students beware

I created the original version of this article and had been monitoring it, but I am leaving the WP and am now abandoning this article to its fate.

Just wanted to provide notice that I am only responsible (in part) for the last version I edited; see User:Hillman/Archive.

I emphatically do not vouch for anything you might see in more recent versions, although I hope for the best. Unfortunately, the preceding section suggests that poor Nordström has been posthumously dragged into a rather nasty "nationalist" controversy which is probably of interest only to some Finns and Swedes.

Good luck to all students in your search for information, regardless!---CH 00:36, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
