Gunnar Johansen

Gunnar Johansen, pianist (1906 – 1991) He studied in his native Denmark with the pianist and conductor Victor Schiöler, then in Berlin with Egon Petri, the disciple of Ferruccio Busoni. He came to the United States in 1929 and taught for many years at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. A romantic piano virtuoso of the highest order, he was one of the chief proponents of the music of Busoni, whose works he recorded in their entirety, as well as the complete works of Bach and Liszt.
