Gumpendorf

A part of 6th district (Mariahilf) in Vienna, Austria is also called Gumpendorf. Around 1000 A. D. Gumpendorf was founded along the side of a road that dates back to the Roman Empire. It was first mentioned in official documents in 1135. Initially Gumpendorf was a suburb of Vienna. In 1529 Gumpendorf was razed during the Siege of Vienna by the Ottoman Empire. Gumpendorf became a part of the city of Vienna in 1850.
