Gumersindo Magaña

Gumersindo Magaña Negrete is a Mexican politician, former member of the rightist and extinct Mexican Democratic Party, who represented his party to the Presidency of the Republic in the year 1988.

In this election who faced candidates nowadays are important figures of the national political life like Carlos Salinas de Gortari, Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano and Rosario Ibarra de Piedra and Manuel Clouthier.

In spite of the positive expressed by Magaña during all the fight towards the Presidency of the Republic its party only managed to obtain 190,891 or 1.04% of the voting that remain in a very distant fourth place, with which its party lost the registry which would return to recover more in three occasions, until definitively losing it in the intermediate federal elections of 1997.

Nowadays Magaña is retired officer of the political life, since, it did not return to appear as candidate in some other occasion and does not militate in political party some.
