Gulistan-e-Jauhar

Gulistan-e-Jauhar (also Gulistan-e-Johar; Urdu: گلستانِ جوهر) is one of the major neighbourhoods of Gulshan Town in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan and comes under the jurisdiction of UC10 Pehlwan Goth and Faisal Cantonment. It is surrounded by Gulshan-e-Iqbal on the North and West ends, Faisal Cantonment on the South, Malir Cantonment on the East and Jinnah International Airport on the South-East.
There are several ethnic groups in Gulshan Town including Urdu speakers, Punjabis, Sindhis, Kashmiris, Seraikis, Pakhtuns, Balochs, Memons, Bohras, Ismailis. Over 97% of the population is Muslim. The post code for Gulistan-e-Jauhar is 75290. The population of Gulshan Town is estimated to be 625,000.

[edit] Apartments of Gulistan-e-Jauhar
Gulistan-e-Jauhar has been traditionally linked with the high rise apartment buildings that have been present. One of the early ones include Jauhar Square and Abdullah Heights.
It is also home to one of the biggest apartment projects in Asia, including Haroon Royal City, Rabia City, Rufi Lake Drive, Rufi Green City, Noman Grand City, decent towers, javed hill view etc., and on average comprising of over 500 apartments each.

Since the area is predominantly Muslim, there are a large number of mosques around the area to serve the purpose. The major Eid gah is Jamia Darul Khair.

[edit] Dangerous Nightlife in Gulistan-e-Jauhar
Gulistan-e-Jauhar has become the "honey pot" for prostitution in the cramped-up apartments that also reside many decent people. Traditionally the Pakistani values are against such acts however, with the recent injection of the western pornography channels through the city cable, the prostitution activity has surged dramatically.
The town is a central point for pick-up of call girls and also eunuchs, however this has lead to many attacks on them recently. [1]
Travelers should also be aware that mugging at knife point is common especially after 10pm, sometimes arranged by the taxi drivers. Hesitation to such people can lead to stabbings or even rape.
[edit] Mafia and Gangs in Gulistan-e-Jauhar
Karachi and especially Gulistan-e-Jauhar has been linked with the Mafia gangs of Abu Salim and Dawood Ibrahim (a Mumbai-Dubai-Karachi based Mafia Gang) who also have several flats in the area. Organized murders are also common by such gangs, whether they are through motorcyclists shooting pass or pre-arranged with the Police through a system called the encounter.A new Gangster named Zain A.K.A Zain Genius(The Mastermind of the gang "COMPONY") is establishing his roots in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.No one in this town is able to withstand the terror of COMPONY.

Gulistan-e-Jauhar has a good transportation connection to the rest of the city. Buses run at regular intervals to most parts of the city, including Saddar, Tower, Clifton, Defence, Tariq Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Civic Center etc.
Gulistan-e-Jauhar is also adjacent to Jinnah International Airport, one of the major airports in South Asia, handling around 6 million passengers every year.
Gulistan-e-Jauhar is also connected via the defunct. Karachi Circular Train. Although the train is out of service, the physical infrastructure stays and can be used for any similar future project.
