Guldborgsund

Guldborgsund is a long narrow and shallow strait located between the Danish islands of Lolland and Falster. It is also the name of a town immediately next to said straight on Lolland. The straight is crossed by the Frederick IX Bridge at Nykøbing Falster and by the Guldborgsund Bridge at Guldborg, at the northern end of the strait. The Guldborgsund bridge is of arch construction buit in 1934, 180m long and 7m wide. There is also a modern tunnel carrying euro route E47 from Copenhagen

Guldborgsund is also the name of a minesweeper that served in the Royal Danish Navy from 1956-1993. It was built by Stephens Brothers Inc. in Stockholm, USA, and launched March 14, 1956. Two 900 hp General Motors diesel engines powered it to a max speed of 13.5 knots. With 375 tons of displacement, it had a range of 3,600 nautical miles at 7 knots. It was crewed by 33-37 men, including four officers, during its service. It was decommissioned on May 4, 1993.

Guldborgsund was the location of the 2005 KFUM-Spejderne i Danmark National Jamboree.
