Guknaesong

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Guknaesong (Korean: 국내성 Hanja: 國內城) was the second capital city of the ancient Korean Kingdom of Goguryeo. It was chosen to become the capital city by the King's second ruler, King Yuri during the 10th month of the year 3 AD. The city was sacked several times until the rise of the 19th ruler Gwanggaeto Taewang, who greatly expanded the empire's territory and upgraded it into a formidable power in the northeast. When Gwanggaeto the Great died during 413 AD, his son, Jangsu Taewang, rose to the throne and moved the capital city down to Pyongyang during the year 427 AD. Guknaesong surrendered to the Silla-Tang alliance armies when Yeon Namsaeng fled to them during the year 666 AD. From that time on, Guknaesong was lost from Goguryeo forever. The empire itself fell during the year 668 AD after Pyongyang was attacked with Bojang Taewang and Yeon Namgeon captured.

this place is present-day Ji'an (集安).
