[edit] History
According to local traditions and historians, Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi (October 2, 971 – April 30, 1030) defeated Raja Jayapala and his son Anandapala in the battle near Tala Gogiah. After defeating these Rajputs, he decided to build an accommodation for his soldiers. [3]. Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi ordered his slave Ayaz to select a place for the accommodation [4]. Ayaz chose an area (which is now Gujar Khan) and started the construction. [5]. At the site of construction they dug up a big crater to store water for the construction. future[6]. During the construction when the autumn arrived the ground burst and various cracks appeared on the ground. Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi was annoyed and frustrated to see the behavior of this land and ordered to stop the construction of building[7]. He gave the name PHAT HAR to this land. Later, the region was named as Potohar [8]. In Urdu, PHAT mean burst and HAR mean ground. Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi came and went like a storm but he left Nakshe Ayaz or Symbol of Ayaz. This Nakshe Ayaz was called Ayazsar and later called Hayatsar [9].
There are various theories about the name 'Gujar Khan'. Some people believe that in 1767, a high caste General, Sirdar Gujar Singh, ruled from Rawalpindi to Attock, and the city was named after him[10].
