After receiving a bachelor's in literary studies at the Université du Québec à Montréal and beginning a masters degree in the same subject, he decided to be a novelist, his passion being writing. When he was young, his favorites writers were Albert Camus, Ernest Hemingway and Fedor Dostoïevski. Currently, his works are similar to those of Jean-Paul Dubois and Philippe Djian. He likes to play music and was once a barman in a bar of the Plateau Mont-Royal.

His book Chercher le vent was published in October 2001 and became a best-seller in Quebec. In 2003 it was published in English by Douglas and McIntyre, under the title Looking for the Updraft.

Guillaume was the spokesman for the "Journée mondiale du livre et du droit d'auteur". In 2005 he wrote the complete text for "La dictée des Amériques".
