Guiglo

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Guiglo is one of the fifty-eight departments of Côte d'Ivoire, located in the western part of the country. It is also the chief town of that department, located along the Nzo River, a tributary of the Sassandra River.

Guiglo is a market centre of the Guere, Yacouba and Mossi people, with trade in rice, livestock, and cassava predominating, and is also a collecting depot for coffee and timber to be taken to coastal ports for export. Guiglo is also the site of both a research station and a sawmill.

In 2005, a UN base was invaded by 1,000 protesters and took control but were forced back by armed UN peacekeepers and left 100 protesters and one UN peacekeeper dead, including 1 wounded during UNOCI.
