Guido is a fictional anthropomorphic forklift from the Pixar animated feature film Cars. Guido is Luigi's best friend, and works with him at Luigi's Casa Della Tires. He is an Italian forklift and can perform a professional pit stop by himself in seconds. The only language Guido can speak and understand fluently is Italian. The only 5 words that he knows in English are "Peet Stop", "Boss", "Uh-oh", "Bye-Bye", and "Okay". He is one of 12 remaining citizens of Radiator Springs. He is voiced by Guido Quaroni. His name means "I drive" in Italian.

In the movie, Guido and Luigi (a Fiat) are fans of Ferrari race cars. During the race sequence between Lightning McQueen and Doc Hudson, Guido is seen wearing a wig of green, white, and red, the colors of the Italian flag. He is holding a yellow and black Ferrari racing shield in each of his forklift arms. This is a joke meant to recall the Tifosi, Ferrari F1's Italian fan base.

[edit] The Pit Stop

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

At the end of the movie in the final racing sequence, little Guido is the only forklift in Lightning's pit crew. Chick Hicks' pit crew mocks him and make fun of him. Luigi has to stop him from going after the other pit crew.

No one suspects that little Guido is the fastest tire changer on the planet. Chick Hicks' pit crew is so stunned, they drop their grilles (which resemble mustaches) in astonishment.

After the race, when everyone is back in Radiator Springs, Guido is with Luigi in their tire shop, when the Michael Schumacher Ferrari enters. He wants tires for himself and his friends (two Maserati Quattroportes). Luigi is so giddy at the arrival of a real Ferrari that he faints from joy. When the Ferrari speaks words of praise to Guido in Italian, (the line he says in Italian translates as "I hope that your friend recovers... they tell me that you (plural) are fantastic!") Guido also faints. (According to the website the cars get the tires after Guido and Luigi re-awaken.)[citation needed]

[edit] Video Game Role

Guido appears in the Cars video game as Lightning McQueen's tire changer for all his Piston Cup races. He is playable only through the Pit Stop Challenge, which involves changing McQueen's tires, refilling his tank, and cleaning his windshield.

[edit] Trivia

  • Guido and Luigi may have been named after the two swindlers in the fairytale The Emperor's New Clothes.
  • Guido appears in the Cars DVD Easter egg where he takes the place of the prairie dogs from the short film Boundin'.
  • Although many official sources state that the only English he knows is the phrase "pit stop", it appears that speaking only Italian is his choice, as he appears to understand everything that is said to him in English; most notable when Guido and Luigi are having a conversation with Luigi speaking English and Guido speaking Italian. In the Italian dubbing, Guido speaks in a strict dialect from Emilia-Romagna, where Ferrari cars are produced.
  • While not available inividually in the MATTEL range, he can come in a three-pack with Luigi and a tractor.
