Gubbi Veeranna

Natakaratna Gubbi Veeranna was a doyen of early Kannada theatre and the founder of the famous Gubbi Veeranna theatre company. In one of the theatre productions "Bhakta Ambareesha", Dr. Rajkumar then a little boy essayed the role with great conviction. He then became famous for his role of Arjuna in another play directed by Gubbi Veeranna which gave him the first break into kannada cinema.

The Karnataka government has insituted the Gubbi Veeranna award for excellence in theatre in his memorial. Notable personalities like B.V Karanth are recipients of this award.

Gubbi Veeranna protegies B. Jayashree, a famous kannada singer and G.V. Shivanand, an accomplished drama actor(Malgudi days) have lived up to the legacy of Gubbi Veeranna in the field of of kannada cinema and fine arts.
