Guadalcanal Diary (film)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Guadalcanal Diary is a film directed by Lewis Seiler in 1943, based on a book by Richard Tregaskis. The movie starred William Bendix, Richard Conte, Anthony Quinn, and John Archer and marks the film debut of Richard Jaeckel. The book and film recount the fight of the United States Marines in the Battle of Guadalcanal only a year before the movie's release. While the film has notable action scenes, its primary focus is on the characters and back-stories to the Marines who fought. Also, somewhat unusually for a film made during the World War II itself, the movie shows the Marines fighting with insufficient supplies.
