[edit] Geo-stub sorting tally

There are still a lot of countries which are grouped together under geo-stub names like "Southeast Asia" or "Caribbean". Some of these countries are getting close to the minimum 60 or so needed for separate stub categories.

The following is a list of these undifferentiated countries arranged by the approximate current number of stubs (this, of course, is in constant flux). One note: "country" is a decidedly vague term - several of the entities listed are technically not regarded as countries by all meanings of the term (Mayotte, Wallis and Futuna, and South Georgia, for just three examples).

NOTE: Countries marked ‡ already have separate geo-stub templates, but do not yet have separate categories.

There are currently 60 of these countries without separate categories, and 37 without templates - two of these "countries" have no stubs. As at 16 January 2007, there were 1437 stubs from those 60 countries, an average of about 24 stubs per country.

[edit] Current/future proposals

Currently being split (see User:Grutness/Ongoing geo-stub splits)

Current/upcoming proposals:

  • Categories for:
    • The Gambia
  • Templates only for:

Thresholds:

  • any countries or subnational administrative regions with 60 stubs - template and category
  • any countries or subnational administrative regions with 30 stubs - template only, feeding into larger category

The next tally is currently underway.

[edit] The full list

This list was prepared from the 13 regional categories, using information from the dates given. Those marked in bold have 50 or more stubs. Note that - as some stubs (e.g., articles about rivers, mountain ranges) may refer to more than one country - the numbers below will not necessarily add up to the number of articles in each regional stub category.

Note: A single stub type covering the Dutch West Indies would cover 34 stubs - those of the Netherland Antilles and Aruba. Given that the political status of these islands is due to change in mid 2007, this may be the best solution for these islands. The French West Indies, however, could conceivably reach the level of each having its own stub type - these two islands currently have 45 stubs between them.
