[edit] Zero tolerance for corporate jargon!
The only thing that irritates me more than the decline in adequate standards of grammar and punctuation is the insidious use of corporate jargon. In my experience, the longer the sentence, the less meaningful content it has. I have a zero tolerance policy towards words like 'stakeholders' and take the view that this kind of nonsense has no place anywhere, least of all in Wikipedia.
I particularly loathe the trend for public organisations and local government officers to use the word 'clients' when referring to the members of the public they serve. I'm convinced it has something to do with privatisation, the effects of which are evident in my vast monthly electricty bill. And while we're on the subject, unnecessarily capitalising your job title and the names of your numerous, futile 'strategies' and 'visions' doesn't make you sound any more important. It just makes you sound like a twat. Gruffle Gaw 16:17, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Style and substance
As well as researching subjects I have an interest in (see below), I enjoy the process of rewriting existing articles on just about any topic to improve their style, clarity, organisation, grammar and structure. If you know of an article that is well researched but badly in need of an overhaul, leave a message on my talk page. Gruffle Gaw 14:34, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] And into the spider's web she crawled...
I only logged on to Wikipedia to do a bit of research for a novel I'm writing, but I have an addictive personality and being able to tinker with an unlimited range of subjects has proven an irresistable lure. At the moment I'm on the site almost every day, bumbling my way through its mechanics and conventions. My intention is usually not to offend or wreck other users' hard work, so please give me the benefit of the doubt if I inadvertantly make a mess of things. If you'd like to leave me a message, please feel free to do so on my talk page. Gruffle Gaw 11:06, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
