[edit] lots of edits, not an admin

Hi - I made a list of users who've been around long enough to have made lots of edits but aren't admins. If you're at all interested in becoming an admin, can you please add an '*' immediately before your name in this list? I've suggested folks nominating someone might want to puruse this list, although there is certainly no guarantee anyone will ever look at it. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 00:35, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Districts of Vienna template

Since you've edited District of Vienna" articles, you may be interested in joining the discussion at Template talk:Districts of Vienna. Martg76 21:12, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] British and American spellings

A reminder that both are valid, and that Wikipedia practice is not to waste effort in changing them over to our own preferred version, but to stick to whichever the article started with; else we'd have nothing but reversion fights, and turn the most innocent thing into yet another instance of POV and infighting, something we need less of, not more, around here.... [edit] Categories on Canada Reads

I removed the categories Category:Canadian radio programs and Category:Canadian television series because Wikipedia has a very explicit policy that an article does not get simultaneously filed in a category and a subcategory of that same category; since Category:Canada Reads is already a subcategory of both the television and radio categories, the article Canada Reads does not go in all three categories, but should be filed either (a) only in the Canada Reads category or (b) only in the television and radio categories. [edit] Serial Comma in Lion Witch and Wardrobe

I see you corrected the serial comma on this title in Children's Literature. I'm curious if you're positive about this one way or the other, and if so, how. My UK Puffin edition from the 1960s has 3 commas on the cover, 2 on the title page, and no title on the copyright page. Worldcat lists about an equal amount of books with each form of punctuation, with the earliest in 1950 showing both.

I made this change to reflect the new title of the article: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe; this article was originally renamed by user PatGallacher. On the other hand, the comma between "the Witch" and "and the Wardrobe" had been bothering me, as none of the editions to which I had access showed a comma there. - Grstain 12:40, August 10, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] National Trust (dedum dedum)

Thanks for patiently dab'ing all my NT entries up to the full reference. I'd do it myself, but I'd probably get it wrong - and it's nice to know if anyone else ever reads my little articles :-) Linuxlad 23:02, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Billy Joel

Thanks for cleaning up as I involve myself too much in Billy Joel's career. :) I honestly appreciate your help. Shigpit 19:10, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Disambig style

About your edit to So What (disambiguation). Disambiguation pages have their own style guidelines (Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages)) which includes not using excess wikilinks. One per line is the general rule. --Commander Keane 01:01, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, Commander. It has been noted. — Grstain 12:11, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Please check your WP:NA entry

Greetings, editor! Your name appears on Wikipedia:List of non-admins with high edit counts. If you have not done so lately, please take a look at that page and check your listing to be sure that following the particulars are correct:

  1. If you are an admin, please remove your name from the list.
  2. If you are currently interested in being considered for adminship, please be sure your name is in bold; if you are opposed to being considered for adminship, please cross out your name (but do not delete it, as it will automatically be re-added in the next page update).
  3. Please check to see if you are in the right category for classification by number of edits.

Thank you, and have a wiki wiki day! BDAbramson T 05:10, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

  • I would like to nominate you for an adminship, but I should warn you in advance that some will grumble that you have not participated in deletion debates and policy discussions. I'll put up the nom now, if you're so inclined, but you may wish to first put some time into participating in those areas. Let me know what you think. BDAbramson T 02:37, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
I am considering this offer. Stay tuned for further developments. — Grstain 13:30, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chew Valley Lake FAC

Hi, I've resubmitted Chew Valley Lake as a featured article candidate, because it didn't receive enough support last time.

As you have edited this page in the past I wondered if you would be willing to visit and comment/support on the nomination? Rod 20:18, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Carly Simon

Thanks for your input and help with many of the Carly Simon articles that I've been adding or fixing. I'm a big fan of hers and want to see her article as good as it can be - chock full of all the great things that she has done. I'm very new to Wikipedia and while I love it I'm certainly learning as I go along. Any help is much appreciated. Rirave 06:36, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Boston, Mass.

Just out of curiosity, why did you change Boston, Massachusetts to Boston, Massachusetts? (in Make Way for Ducklings). - DavidWBrooks 21:50, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

So you can click on Boston, to see the Boston, Massachusetts article, and on Massachusetts to see the Massachusetts article. — Grstain 07:00, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dunstanburgh

Hi. You've got this: "Although it is rumoured that a "dungeon" exists, the "dungeon" is actually a small storage room, possibly used to store grain in the left side (on approach) of the main gatehouse." I am a bit confused. Are you referring to the underground room under a hatch, down which you would need to climb a ladder? I have been down there and if it is a grain storage room it is the most impractical, wet and badly-accessed one in the history of storage rooms! :) 138.37.199.199 08:13, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

The information on the "dungeon" was added to this article by User 144.32.128.155 (Talk). He would be the person to answer the question. — Grstain 13:41, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
Oh for goodness' sake! I can't believe I did that - sorry! I'll sort it out on the D'burgh talk page. Thanks for the steer. :) 138.37.199.199 16:37, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for help with Chew Valley Villages

Hi, Just a note tosay thanks for picking up all my punctuation errors etc on the Chew Valley vilages & keep up the good work - if I had a barnstar to bestow you'd get one. Rod 16:33, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

Glad to be of service — Grstain 18:02, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

I may have trashed some of your changes on Chew Stoke as I was also editing it at the same time & then got confused in the edit conflict about what was yours & what was mine - sorry Rod 18:40, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

I've put Chew Valley & Chew Stoke up for peer review & I'd like to do Chew Magna & some of the other villages soon - would you be willing to comment on them? Rod 20:04, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
Most likely. — Grstain 20:06, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Joseph Boyden

The main reason I had changed the order of the paragraphs in the article was that Canada Reads took place after March 1, so at least to me, it seems chronologically proper to discuss the award first, and then CR. Bearcat 19:17, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

I can dig it: the Canada Reads competition did indeed take place after March 1, although the nomination took place in 2005. Your last change (two paragraphs) makes it clear that the winning the Rogers award did not happen at the same time as CR. (In any case, winning is more impressive than being nominated.) — Grstain 21:12, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 52nd Street

It might not have been your intent, but you recently removed content from 52nd Street (album). Please be careful not to remove content from Wikipedia without a valid reason, which you should specify in the edit summary or on the article's talk page. Thank you. A link to the edit I have reverted can be found here: link. If you believe this edit should not have been reverted, please contact me. cholmes75 18:29, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

You are correct, that was not my intent. I have redone my edit, and all should be correct in order this time. — Grstain 18:39, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chew Stoke FA candidate

You have previously kindly edited the article for Chew Stoke, which I have recently nominated for FA status. Would you be kind enough to give your comments or suggestions for improvements. Rod 14:10, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your edits on this but can I ask why you removed the info box with map &stats etc? Rod 16:22, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

A thousand apologies! That's the second time that something like that has happened to me recently. (Cf. preceding entry.) I do not understand how it happens, but I shall endeavour to ensure that it never happens again. — Grstain 18:21, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chew Valley FA Candidate

AS you've previously helped with Chew Valley pages, I thought I'd let you know I've now put it through peer review & now up for FA- I wondered if you'd be willing to add any comments? Rod 15:41, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cleanup Template

My bot, Alphachimpbot, has just modified some of your cleanup templates. {{Cleanup|MONTH YEAR}} is not a valid template. Use {{Cleanup-date|MONTH YEAR}} instead. Just figured that I would tell you. --Alphachimp talk 17:08, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] West Wycombe Park

Hi Grstain, I am probably being more stupid than usual, but what is the false information that you have removed here [1] - I want eventually to make a FA out of the page, so I do want it to be correct. I started the page under my original name ages ago - when I was very new and green. To be frank the anon that keeps contributing is more hinderance than help - earlier he actually removed the ref section! but that is Wikipedia I suppose- anyway thanks for the copyedit. Giano | talk 18:45, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

The page had the following claim: "Benjamin Franklin — a regular visitor to the house and a president of the United States of America". Old Ben was a busy fellow, and president of a number of things, but he was never a president of the USA, as far as I know. Grstain | Talk 18:59, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
It would seem that this information was added by user 80.229.25.1 on July 12, 2006 [2]. Grstain | Talk 19:14, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Ah I see - he'll sabotage my FA before it even get's finished or to the FAc page!(there is a ong way to go yet) that was another of his earlier contributions, having checked I can't find a ref in any book to Franklyn being portrayed in the house, reading his biog here it seems it may well be true that he visited, but without a ref I will remove it! I see the latest anon editing is a notorious vandal - funny sort of page to attract a seriel vandal though - nothing ever surprises me here! Thanks for spotting that Giano | talk 19:18, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Have you just accidentally reverted me, or do you like the stripy lawn better? Giano | talk 12:40, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Don't worry, see you have now re-reverted, I've just changed it to a more conventional plan, can't make up my mind which is best! Giano | talk 13:05, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bot

Thanks for informing me, I will have a look again at the categories being tagged and revert the wrong ones. You need not revert the edits, just let me know the category and I will remove the wrong tag. Sorry for that! STTW (talk) 18:05, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

STTWbot is currently removing the tag from the articles (manually selected) in the categories provided by you. STTW (talk) 20:23, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of IMDB link from London Eye article

I'm baffled as to why this was done; I added this link because some earlier editor had erroneously changed Bride and Prejudice to Pride and Prejudice, and although this may have been malicious (wikis by their nature attract the vandals), I suspect that it was just what I call a "proofreading error" (e.g. a mathematically-ignorant person "correcting" "sine wave" to "sign wave" -- I remember reading album sleeve-notes in which this very mistake had been made); I wanted to demonstrate that my correction was an accurate one. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.157.212.45 (talk) 19:37, 9 March 2007 (UTC).

The IMDB link was removed from the Bride and Prejudice entry because it was the only such link in the list — this section mentions 18 other films or television shows, none of which had IMDB links. My suggestion, to ensure that Bride and Prejudice is not reverted to Pride and Prejudice, is to add a comment <!-- A comment --> to the text, indicating that the name is correct. — Grstain | Talk 19:49, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
 : Ah, that makes sense. 193.122.47.170 22:18, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
