Grove Hill is a town in Clarke County, Alabama, United States. At the 2000 census the population was 1,438. The city is the county seat of Clarke County.

Grove Hill is located at 31°42'22.093" North, 87°46'27.386" West (31.706137, -87.774274)GR1.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 12.9 km² (5.0 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,438 people, 582 households, and 387 families residing in the town. The population density was 111.7/km² (289.6/mi²). There were 684 housing units at an average density of 53.1/km² (137.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 61.96% White, 37.27% Black or African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.21% from other races, and 0.35% from two or more races. 0.35% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 582 households out of which 27.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.9% were married couples living together, 17.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% were non-families. 32.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.99.

In the town the population was spread out with 23.2% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 91.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.6 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $31,012, and the median income for a family was $36,833. Males had a median income of $35,481 versus $20,438 for females. The per capita income for the town was $16,459. About 13.4% of families and 18.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 23.3% of those under age 18 and 26.7% of those age 65 or over.

The current mayor of Grove Hill is Lamar Hudson. Hudson is leading creative new initiatives to improve the quality of life for Grove Hill city residents.

Grove Hill is truly the epitome of Southern hospitality. Grove Hill has fabulous gift shops, such as Schae's Rays,Wyman's, Petal Pusher,Grove Hill Floral and The Gift Gallery. It also has some of the best food you will ever eat at Bertile's, Gene and Ellen's, Food Tiger, and Dunn's Exxon.

Clarke County is noted for it's wonderful hunting and fishing commodities. Deer, wild hogs,wild turkeys, bobcats, coyotes, panthers, squirrels, opposums, and armadillos are abundant in the forests of Grove Hill. Grove Hill is also the center of a major timber industry.

The Clarke Prep School Gator Football team has been awarded the AISA Football State Championship in 2000,2001,2004, and 2005. The Clarke Prep School Gator Baseball Team has been awarded the AISA Baseball State Championship in 2006.The Clarke Prep School Lady Gator Volleyball team has been awarded the AISA Volleyball State Championship in 2004,2005, and 2006. Clarke County High School is currently undergoing remodeling.

The people in Grove Hill may be the warmest and kindest people on the face of the Earth. Any opportunity to visit Grove Hill should be seized immediately, as Grove Hill will make you feel quite at home. If one does visit Grove Hill, one must be sure to visit the Clarke County Museum on Cobb Street.
