Grotle (ハヤシガメ? Hayashigame in original Japanese language versions) are one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Grotle are famous for evolving from one of the three species of Pokémon the player can choose at the start of their adventure in the Diamond and Pearl versions of the series. The purpose of Grotle in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]
The name Grotle is a portmanteau of the words grove and turtle. The Japanese name Hayashigame is a combination of the Japanese words for forest (林 hayashi?) and turtle (亀 kame?).

Biological characteristics
Grotle lives alongside water in forests. During the daytime, it leaves the forests to let the trees on its shell take in sunlight. Its shell is also strengthened by soil. Very slow and gentle, they only battle when needed, and in battle they will fight valiantly for the trainer. These are Pokémon who come to eat the seeds which have already grown into trees. Its main colors are brown and green. It resembles a snapping turtle, Ankylosaurus or Stegosaurus.
In the video games
Grotle evolves from Turtwig at level 18, and into Torterra at level 32.
In terms of physical combat, Grotle is an above-average Stage 1 Pokémon, with high Attack and Defense stats. Its level-up moveset is identical to its pre-evolution, Turtwig's. This moveset includes powerful moves such as Crunch and Leaf Storm.
