Grosvenor House Hotel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grosvenor House Hotel is one of the largest and most famous luxury hotels in London. It was built in the 1920s on the site of the former London residence of the Dukes of Westminster, whose family name is Grosvenor. The hotel has a largely unused entrance on Park Lane in Mayfair, though this is not the 'main' entrance. It is an outpost of London's largest cluster of luxury hotels, which is centred on Hyde Park Corner. The Great Room (which is a separate room to the Ballroom) at the Grosvenor House is the venue of many prominent awards evenings, charity balls and the like and is often seen on British television, and is one of the largest ballrooms in Europe, with a capacity of about 3000 (theatre style) or 1500 seated at 150 10 person round tables.

The Grosvenor House Hotel is now owned by Royal Bank of Scotland, managed by Marriott International and is undergoing a multi-million pound renovation and restoration. This includes a full refurbishment of all restaurants, guest rooms, health facilities, and public areas. Upon completion in late 2007 (or possibly 2008), the hotel will be renamed The Grosvenor House, a JW Marriott Hotel.
