The Großer Garten (English: Great Garden) is a baroque style park in Dresden. It is oblong in shape and covers an area of about 2 km² in a central location of the city. Established in 1676 as a hunting preserve, it has been a public garden since 1814. Pathways and avenues are arranged symmetrically throughout its area. A central feature of the park is the Sommerpalais.
Established outside the old walls of the city, the park was encompassed by the significant growth of the urban area in the second half of the 19th century. Features such as a zoo and botanical garden were added late in that century. A miniature railway known as the Parkeisenbahn was developed by the youth organisations of the former GDR (German Democratic Republic, commonly East Germany in 1950.
The Volkswagen's Transparent Factory is the newest building built here and is located at the Straßburger Platz in the northwest corner of the park
