Groß-Umstadt is a city in the Bundesland (federal state) Hesse in Germany. It is near Darmstadt and Frankfurt and at the northern border of the Odenwald.
It has around 22,000 residents all together in its 8 districts and Groß-Umstadt itself. The districts are:
- Dorndiel
- Heubach
- Kleestadt
- Klein-Umstadt
- Raibach
- Richen
- Semd
- Wiebelsbach
It was first mentioned in 766 named "autmundisstat"; but uninterrupted settlement in the area dates back to 5000 BC.
Each year at the weekend after September, 15th there is the "Winzerfest" (a wine festival) which attracts tens of thousands of people.
