What we need to find out is what licence the image is under. Who took the photo? Who owns the statue, or when was the statue made? If you are not sure ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions as it suggests above.--Commander Keane 12:04, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Yeah I saw that, but most of it is not in English so I can't understand it. Who took the photo? Don't tell me, ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. The statue may be in the public domain because it is so old, but I'm not sure how French law deals with it. Also, if you don't own the photo, it is copyright and thus we can't have it in Wikipedia.--Commander Keane 13:27, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
The photo is taken by Patrice Schmidt, for Musée d'Orsay, who has put it on a web site. I have posted on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Is it possible that the picture is for educational or promotional purposes? That is what the function of a museum is. --Grim Reaper2 13:34, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Although I am a photographer, I am not sufficiently familiar with copyright law or Wikipedia policies. I post only my own work, and that simplifies the matter. It looks like the French qualified the use of the photo (educational), which I think might run against Wikipedia policy. Perhaps you could post your question at the Commons village pump.
