Williams (born 1972 in Tennessee), better known by the pseudonym
GRIMHAMM3R, is a recreational electronic sports player who has been playing video games in the United States for nearly 30 years. He is known for his catch phrases "Swift like a ninja" and his superior sniping skills on games such as Halo combat evolved, Halo 2 and more recently Lost planet extreme condition for the xbox 360.
Williams was introduced to video games at the age of six when his parents bought an Atari 2600 at the request of a doctor. Les was falling behind in school and having difficulty keeping up with his classmates. Reading was especially difficult for him and it was believed, in 1976, that the hand eye coordination of playing video games could improve his reading along with other eye exercise. Williams believes he has a mild form of Dyslexia which was not well known until the mid 1980's. He has never officially been diagnoses with dyslexia but that never stopped him from playing video games.
Thought the 1970's he became a master at moving pixels with a joystick. He was able to reach very high scores with games such as Space invaders, Maze Craze and Combat. He would occasionally play Space Invaders with the invaders set on invisible just to make the game more difficult. Playing the Atari at home fueled his appetite and by 1978 he was playing arcade games at the local skating ring. He continued playing arcade games throughout the 70's and mid 80,s often times attracting crowds of people trying to get a glimpse at what the next cut scene of Pac-Man or Donkey Kong.
In the early 1980's Williams discovered the world of gaming on the Commodore vic 20 and later Commodore 64. He spent most of his spare time building and fighting morphs with Mail order Monsters and defeating the Russian blitz in Gunship (video game).
By 1987 Williams had his first Nintendo and was playing more advanced games such as Contra and Duck hunt. Contra was the first video game Williams used a cheat code and later Williams became notorious for using cheat codes. Williams spent weeks mastering the moves of Scorpion and Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat and beating Iron Mike Tyson in Mike Tyson's punch-out. William's brother and friends called him "The game master" because he was nearly impossible to beat in Mortal Kombat.
Modern Era In Late 1994 Williams mother purchased a Packard Bell desktop computer and Williams gaming quickly evolved into the modern era of PC gaming. Williams purchased Star Wars: X-Wing, Doom, Duke Nukem and Wolfenstein 3D and conquered them all. By 2000 Williams was playing birth of the federation online having mastered all galactic empires. By the end of 2000 Williams was evolving into a real-time strategy player. Williams coined the term "fork offense" and "fork defense" with a strategy he created in the game Command & Conquer: Red Alert. The basic primes of the "fork offense" strategy was to create a small diversion force of tanks and infantry that attacked the enemies ore trucks. When the enemy engaged in order to defend their ore trucks, Williams would send another small force from a totally different direction into the enemy base and attack either the construction yard or ore refinery or both. Williams would order the units that were attacking the ore trucks to retreat to the base in hopes that the enemy would pursue where he would employee the "fork defense". The "fork defense" worked by strategically placing base defenses such as gun turrets and pill boxes in a type of funnel configuration. When the enemy pursued and entered the funnel, Williams would stop his retreat and order his forces to attack. If used properly in conjunction with the "fork offense" the results are devastating to the enemy. Just as the name implies, the enemy would quickly find itself surrounded and overwhelmed on muilti fronts. Williams used this strategy on many similar real-tme strategy games such as Warcraft, Starcraft, Star trek Armada, Star trek Armada II, and Dominion.
Currently Williams plays games with the Xbox 360 on Xbox Live. He's a big fan of first-person shooter like the Halo series and role playing games like Fable.
Williams has been a successful competitor in several first-person shooter games and had over 1500 confirmed kills in Halo 2 before the Bungie.net reset. He is currently unranked as a Halo 2 player. Although he is a successful competitor in several first-person shooter games, he has yet to achieve professional gamer status.
