[edit] Suggestion for new headings

[edit] Baseline facts & figures

Perhaps some data could be added on baseline data such as measured average grip strengths for the different types of grip. This is certainly present in the medical literature for some of the data. The best link I know of is at normative data pdf, this is pretty good too position and grip strength. --abacus 10:57, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] In medicine

Grip strength is used as a measure of fatigue in some branches of medicine. It is aslo able to predict a decline in function in old age midlife grip strength as a predictor of old age functioning. --abacus 10:57, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] In sports

Grip is an important, though often overlooked component of strength in sports. Sports where grip strength is of particular importance are climbing, judo, weightlifting, arm wrestling.

[edit] As separate discipline

From being an odd performance at fairs and circuses, grip feats have recently gained acceptance as a sport in its own right, with competitions held with increasing regularity. Feats include 1-arm deadlift, nail bending and card tearing.

[edit] History

....

[edit] Great grips in history

The only John Brookfield in Wiki is a genetics professor. A "great grip"? Seems unlikely --Bicycle repairman 19:12, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

Maybe an entry should be created for great grip John Brookfield. Search Amazon for his books. --Svein Olav Nyberg

[edit] They is

  • shudders* I hate typos like that... I must have been talking in singular initially, thank you Bot! Tyciol 07:37, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Spam/Advertising in external links allowed??

I clicked on the external links, and one appears to just be an individual's e-store for overpriced exercise equipment? -Unknown

I changed some of the headings to the links. I don't think people should put "the best" or "the top." Especially when the only contributions of the people who put them up were plugging their own websites. That is POV and is not allowed. -Ryan
Sorry for so many edits at one time, I am still new to using the wiki. I took out "instructional" from the functional hand website as I only saw articles about their product. There was no instruction on the site. -Ryan

Again the same group (from functional hand strength) added a link about THEIR product and put how it was the best forearm developement tool there is. Not only is this POV and not allowed, the only people who like that product so much are the same people who sell it.

[edit] References

The references section includes this entry:

  • Adis (for the exercises that improve grip part).

I think this should either be clarified (what is "Adis", where does one find it) or removed. It's not useful in the present form. Dsreyn 14:58, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ban the spammer?

A few IP addresses lately have been spamming with links about the formulator and functional hand strength CLEARLY advertising it. The people who edit them have only edited a few links, and they are all the same. They even created a forearm strength article which is a copied and pasted advertisement. If anybody knows how to ban them I would appreciate it, or tell me how to. I would gladly vote for it.

During my proofread, I removed the section detailing grip strength exercises via a hidden comment. I feel that it is not really fitting with an encyclopedia. Consider providing a link to an online resource instead.
