[edit] Biography
Important note: This account of Grigor's life is based on if one plays using the recommendations of the Empire Earth official strategy guide and does not conform to all possible outcomes.
According to the history in Empire Earth and calculations, Grigor was born in 1988 i a run-down warehouse. When he was young, he abandoned his parents to their own property and he joined the Russian Mafia, quickly rising through the ranks. During this time, he earned the nickname "The Crocodile", for his treatment of his enemies. He is also known as "Illy" to his friends. In 2016, there were food riots throughout Russia and Grigor's parents died in one of them. At this point, using his parents death as one of a set of reasons, Grigor steps into the political spotlight. At the beginning of the Russian Campaign, Grigor is a politician for the Ushi Party. In him burns a desire to make Russia a great nation again and to create the largest empire the world has ever seen.
However, he is accused of crimes involving an attempted coup and is in hiding in Voronezh in 2018. At this time his cover is blown and he is forced to flee to Volgograd, where his ally Vassili Zhukov has secured control of the city to allow Grigor to launch an insurrection. After winning the support of the cities of Rostov and Saratov and, consequently, the support of an opportunistic Ukraine, Grigor presses his advantage and takes Voronezh.
Turning his initial success into full-blown revolution, he then proceeded to take over all Russia by 2023. He renames the country Novaya Russia and begins to make plans to conquer the rest of the world.
Grigor quickly initiates his plans. But the major powers of Europe band together to stop his plans and they constantly attack Moscow and try to kill Grigor. After defeating the last of the rebels at home, his army, led by the feared paramilitary force known as the Black Robes, take Kiev and consequently the rest of Ukraine. There, Grigor is introduced to scientist Dr. Alexi Septimus, who gives Grigor the technology to create giant fighting robots, or "cybers" as they are called in the game, as well as a very powerful cyber dubbed the Rostov JK1 as a personal gift to Grigor. With this new technology, Grigor conquers the Netherlands and Norway, and from there the rest of Europe, winning his most hard-fought war.
Grigor's plans to conquer the world stall in the Middle East and North Africa, however, and it becomes clear that Grigor will be unable to conquer the world in his lifetime. Unable to pass his legacy to an heir with the discovery that he is sterile, Grigor decides to teach everything he knows to the Rostov cyber, and dubs him "Grigor II". Grigor announces Grigor II to be his heir in 2064, triggering a coup instigated by four angry, jealous officers led by one General Yukov. Tipped off by a young Lieutenant, Sergei Molotov, Grigor overcomes a minor heart attack with the help of a device created by Dr. Septimus and leads a counter-coup, killing Yukov and his co-conspirators. Tragically, Grigor's heart suddenly gives out and he dies, leaving Grigor II to lead Novaya Russia.
[edit] A New Future
Years later Molotov is a General, but he has become disillusioned with world conquest by a near-death experience in China which resulted in him having half of his body replaced with mechanical parts to keep him alive. During the attempted invasion of the West Indies and the United States in 2098, Grigor II orders Molotov to wipe out the population of Cuba. Molotov refuses and defects to the USA, bringing with him plans to build a time machine to allow him to try and stop the horrors he has witnessed from coming to be. He and the American agent Molly Ryan take the time machine to go back to Voronezh in 2018 in hopes of getting to talk to Grigor to avoid what is happening in their time.
Unfortunately, Grigor II captures the time machine after they go through and arms Volograd with weapons from the future in preparation for Grigor's revolution. Repelling attacks from Grigor's advanced forces, Molotov and Ryan secured an alliance with the Ukraine, who were unsure about supporting a technologically advanced Grigor, and use spies to capture Grigor's technology, allowing them to destroy Grigor's forces and kill Grigor II.
With Grigor II destroyed, Molotov (note: in the game this can also be Ryan, depending on who reaches Grigor's bunker first. If both arrive simultaneously, it will always be Molotov) confronts Grigor in his secret bunker in Volgograd to try and talk to him, but Grigor II had already propagandized his predecessor with his vision of world conquest to the point that debate is futile. "When the robot came to me, it explained all that is to come: the battle, the conquests...the glory. Do you really think I'd have done any less myself had I lived long enough? So what if the short-sighted people of your generation curse my name, so long as they are my slaves?!" Grigor comments. Molotov is forced to kill Grigor. Afterwards, Molotov goes back to the future and asks one question:
"I can feel the tug of the time vortex...pulling...me...back. But what future will I return to? One that is better, or worse?"
It is not clear what happens in this new timeline, but the presence of Novaya Russia in some of the missions in the Asian Campaign of Empire Earth Expansion Pack "The Art of Conquest", and the fact that in the second mission of this campaign, Russia is in need of troops and is trading raw materials for troops, hints that someone else carried out the revolution after the death of Grigor, although Novaya Russia this time does not attempt to conquer the world, or at least are unsuccessful.
