[edit] Photos of Kyiv, Ukraine

I live in Kyiv and I'm willing to take photos of Kyiv for Wikipedia. What photos are most needed? Greg.ory 16:52, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Photos

Ok well first of all if you need help with anything let me know. Now if you are willing to take photos then here is what we need.

Kiev Metro (have a look at the article first) Photos of all the stations (view of the central hall from both ends, platforms, and for some with decorations details of them as well). Подробнее про метро можно узнать на форуме метролюбителей на кoторый приглашаю.
To publish photos I strongly recommend to use wikicommons so that other language wikipedias can use them as well like this one. To use wikicommons several steps have to be taken. (I already started with publishing 1962 images of the metro)
  1. First go there and register [1];
  2. Go to the upload file and you should see the following ([2])
  3. You can only upload anything from your harddisk so under the source filename give your internal PC adress of the file
  4. Under Destination filename: give it something suitable (eg Image:n-skaya.jpg).
  5. In the summary box enter name of photographer, date taken, desctiption of what is shown..etc
  6. Now the next thing you will need is to put a licence. I recomend either own work or GFDL with cc-by-sa-2.5. Otherwise it will be deleated within sevendays
  7. Upload file
  8. if you get a name error modify the name with a minor variation to spelling

That is it pretty much, if you need any help let me know-Kuban kazak 17:08, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Okay! Thanks for all the information and instructions! As I have time and I am traveling around the city I'll begin taking pictures of the metros. (Some are very decorative.) I will upload them as you suggested. Also FYI, English is my first language, I know very little Russian and no Ukrainian. Greg.ory 20:32, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
Almost forgot, make sure you categorise them, or at least let me know what you have uploaded so that we can find them. Enjoy Kiev! -Kuban kazak 22:53, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
One more thing, get the pictures of surface vestibules, as well. Apart from that do remember that what you are doing is taking quite a good strain in your energy on this so I must say I deeply respect your devotion to this.--Kuban kazak 23:16, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
"surface vestibules"??? What exactly are those? Do you have an example? Also, I'll do my best, it's going to take some time. My camera's LCD just broke so I need to buy a new camera... :c( that's going to delay the beginning of this project. (I think I'll be able to afford a new camera in a week or two.) Meanwhile I'm looking at the Metro's from a new perspective and planning some shots. I live at the end of one line so I may even get a shot of an empty metro car, if I'm quick. :c) Greg.ory 22:17, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
Like this ; sorry about the camera...anyway here is the example of the perspective [3]]-Kuban kazak 01:16, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Hey, kazak, don't be too hard on the new guy. :)
Greg, take the photos of Kyiv that you like and enjoy. These are exactly the photos that are needed.

Nah, it's fine. I wanted to know what was most wanted. :) The only problem i have is that the metros are very busy and not usually well light. The pictures I've attempted are not turning out well at all. too much blur or noise. Anyway, seeing as how some more general shots might be wanted I've put seven photos on flickr (http://flickr.com/photos/gregcolker/) If anyone thinks these will be useful I'll put high-res ones on the commons. let me know... Excellent, of course they will be useful. Thanks a lot. --Kuban Cossack 16:12, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Okay, I'll put them up on the commons as soon as I have access to a better internet connection. Greg.ory 22:17, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
