The village of Great Sankey centres on the crossroads of the A57, St. Mary's Road and Station Road. It has been my impression in 29 years of living here that this point is closer to 3 miles from the centre of Warrington. The remarkable fact about the crossroads in question is that it was the only one remaining in England with each of the four landmarks which might typically have been associated with a village on a Royal Ordnance Survey map - Post Office, Police Station, Public House and Church.
